For Sale: Hop-Pocket Machine

We are renovating a 300-year-old oast house in Herefordshire, and upstairs is a hop-pocket machine, used to fill the hop pockets downstairs.

It's around 6-7ft tall x about 3ft wide and consists of a framework and a large screw mechanism that pushes the hops into a sack (or hop pocket).

The only identification it has is a name plate of a local company at Bishops Frome in Herefordshire - but this could have been the dealer and not the manufacturer.

The oast house has been in my wife's family for over 50 years and the oast house hasn't been used as an oast house since they moved in, so I have no idea as to the age of the machine, only that it is over 60 years old, and possibly 100 or more.

If anyone is interested, you can contact me at snipped-for-privacy@clara.co.uk - if you can't use it, you could put it in the garden and drape hops/flowers over it!

Any pubs/restaurants/museums etc interested?

Ian
