Gent: whats available on draft?

Mar 03, 2005 2 Replies

I'm planning a visit to Belgium. Two days in Antwerp (I've been here before) and 2 days in Gent (never been before).

  • Beer-wise, is Gent worth a 2 day visit? Or should I head out to Ostend for the day.

  • I prefer to drink draft beer where possible. In Antwerp, the De Koeninck is sublime, Leffe also very good. What draft beers are available in Gent? Is DeK widely available. (Note -- I am not too keen on cloudy beers/wheat beers).

Thanks Bruce

Gent's probably got more than enough to keep you going. Oostende's really only got 2 top-notch bars (Ostens Bierhius & Bottelje as I'm sure you know).

Gent has the Waterhuis aan de Bierkant (Groetenmarkt 9) which usually has about 10 on draught from memory. Then there's the superb Hopduvel (Rokerelsstraat 10). After that with less on draught but more than adequate bottle lists come the Galgenhuisje (Groentenmarkt

5), the Trappistenhuis (Brabantdam 164) plus plenty of others.

Thanks, Brian. Sounds like there are plenty of pubs for me to explore in Gent.
