Has this newsgroup gone to sleep - is everybody pissed?

No postings on here for almost a week now?

The beer must be too good!

If you've got nothing to say - say it.

(Just unexpectedly received Black Isle's "beer festival in a box". I shall throw another log on the fan heater...)

Spoon xmas ales a bit lacklustre; though I did like the HN 12 days (5.5%)

- a proper winter ale and last week the Everards Xmas Cracker 5% Most are not proper winter ales, just a beer with a seasonal label stuck on.

Of course. This is Usenet, you know.

White Horse Brewery's Black Horse Porter. Thanks to some foreign customers the regulars are now calling it "Zebra" but it's really nice.

Thank goodness that when there is nothing to say you don't have to wade through hundreds of spam messages to find that out! This is the most spam free and off topic free newsgroup I read.

I avoid anything with flashing pumpclips, ones with small wobbly elves on springs, ones with reindeer on, and ones that play annoying little tunes.

And a Merry Christmas to you all!

If only.

Sadly Usenet is dying. Most who use it are in the over 50 group. If you look at the posters, there really aren't all that many.

I'm sure there are loads of web based forums. Has anybody got any suggestions?

I'm a lurker and post only very occasionally. I check this group several times a day. There must be more like me ? Usenet is still the best !

Please no no no. Web based forums are rubbish - difficult to use and difficult to understand. Let's stay with Usenet - simple to use and *so* much better !

I was stuck in Paris Charles de Gaulle airport last night and in desperation I bought a bottled beer called Desperados from the snack bar

- it was a lager cut with tequila. Quite revolting. Thankfully I found a bar with a decent German lager on tap later.

I agree, but most people (especially the yoof) don't -- this traffic drop-off has happened over the last few years on every newsgroup I read, and in many subject areas most of the interesting and useful discussion has now moved to web-based forums along with the majority of people.

Unfortunate for diehard Usenet fans, buts that's the way it's going :-(

But that isn't exactly mega-active, either.

Still some *very* busy newsgroups :-

uk.d-i-y uk.sci.weather

And for really old people like me :-

uk.people.silversurfers

All is not lost yet :-)

uk.railway is busy as well

And in that vein I shall be behind the bar on the Worth Valley on Boxing Day.

The beer will be flowing nicely I should think.

The rest of the festive season I think the beer will be coming from a secret location in Hebden Bridge I couldn't possibly disclose where! Real ale but Camra don't fully approve!

I only look here occasionally these days - even though I am well over 50 :-). There are several Yahoo! groups you could consider, such as cask-uk.
