Michael Jackson dies

Very sad news.

Many years ago I gave him a lift in my car to a CAMRA meeting at the Claremont, a Holts pub in Moss Side, Manchester. And the wheels were still on when we came out!

They could have used a better picture of him in his prime! Very sad.

I believe that he died of Parkinson's disease. That's what did for my dad. It's a horrible, slow death. I wish his nearest and dearest all the best.

In article , PeterE writes

I have a fine tasting notes book on single malt whisky's written by a Michael Jackson, good beers and good whisky's seem natural bed fellows, is it the same person?

A sad loss. A gentleman who didn't fit the CAMRA corporate inage.

Will the "Executive" wring their hands after years of ignoring his one man campaigning

as they did with Moly and others?

Very sad news - a great, witty, well-rounded & insightful writer, & a charming chap.

A US newspaper said "Before Jackson, all beer was essentially the same" which is a bit of a stretch, but he was hugely influential none the less.

He's certainly the biggest influence on why i became a beer-fan, then brewer.

I'd heard about his Parkinson's, I didn't know it was life- threatening.

He will be sorely sorely missed. MikeMcG

Yes.

I met and had a chat with him at Helsinki Beer Festival, where he was handing out the awards, about 3 years or so ago.

A very nice chap, and, of course, a Yorkshireman to boot.

I knew he was ill too (thanks to someone posting about his illness in this very group), but it's a bit of a shock, all the same.

Very sad news.

Yeah, I saw that article, too, and my first thought was "Well, if that were the case, what the hell was "The World Guide to Beer" about and why did it thrill and inspire so many of us back in the late 70's?"?

But, I assume the article was just quickly written and the author in something of a shock and meant to say something along the lines of:

"Before *many of us read* Jackson, *we thought* all beer was essentially the same".

I saw another post in a ng that credited Jackson with creating the terms "top fermenting yeast" and "bottom fermenting yeast". Would have love to get Michael's reaction to that. (That one seemed to be a re-write of MJ's Wikipedia entry, that was written in a foreign language and then (mis)translated back into English.)
