Nice Pub with accommodation around Whitby?

Can anyone suggest a nice real ale pub with friendly accommodation around Whitby????

Further in land is OK.

I'm trying to find even the simplest of B&Bs for birthday weekend away for my Father but I'm not getting any where.

A nice pub would be ideal!

Cheers

Just stayed at the Crown Hotel, Malton (Suddabys) , which is a brew pub. Cheap accomodation, basic but ok for one night, JL

May I suggest :-

Horseshoe Hotel Egton Bridge Whitby YO21 1XE Tel: 01947 895245

Small Village - Good Real Ale + Good food. I've not stayed there so can't comment on the accommodation. We had a holiday cottage near to the hotel last year and ate/drank there on a few occasions - very happy with them - very friendly. We'll certainly be staying there when we next pay a short visit to that wonderful part of the country. BTW - they even admit dogs :-)

Erm, the Duke of York, in Whitby itself, ath the bottom of the 199 steps, used to have a few rooms... Otherwise, further inland, I'd strongly recommend the New Inn in Cropton, home of the Cropton Brewery... apart from the fact it's in the middle of nowhere, the landcape and bilding are really nice, the brewery's at the back of the garden, and the home-cooked food is more than decent (and that's a bl**dy continental speaking here)... spent a few days there once, doing litle but eat, drink, sleep and the occasional walk in the vincinity. Blissssss...

You could take a look at the Fox & Hounds at Ainthorpe on the North York Moors. We found the food and drink to be first class but couldn't comment on the accommodation as we were staying elsewhere locally.

I think there's a pub called the Moorcock not far from Whitby, it's on the North York Moors national park and a tad remote, but a fantastic place. It's at Langdale End, and this year's Good Beer Guide doesn't give a facilities listing (as it's an inn brief entry) but I'm sure they did accommodation. Or there's the Victoria at Robin Hood's Bay,the Cellars in Scarborough, the Highlander in Scarborough, or try York for a good day out.

I sympathise!

Thanks to everyone who suggested somewhere. unfortunately they were all full!!! I have though kept them saved for future use.

In the end we got a B&B opposite the Laurel Pub in Robin Hoods bay. Too much OP was consumed and the previously mentioned affliction of "Talking rubbish" took hold on Saturday night!

Cheers
