Its been announced that the York Brewery, which has been established since



1996 has been taken over by Mitchell Hotels and Inns.

Strange when one thinks that they had a perfectly adequate brewery and visitor centre in Lancaster which they chose to close a few yeasr ago.


I think you've said it all there! I wonder how interested Mitchells are in York Brewery, apart from the fact it's a nice site within the York city walls. A nice residential development there I suspect, and, in the current economic downturn, nobody will be able to query such a decisio, particularly as York is such a desirable place to live.

So lots of money to be made from selling the brewery site, some nice tourist and city centre pubs in York and Leeds. They're not daft!

And subsequently? Well the list of Mitchells approved breweries (ie where their tenants can buy) includes the usual multinational suspects. Plus Black Sheep. Enough said.

I wonder if they will stop producing piss-water now.
