DEalcoholized Guinness?

Okay, I realize to the regular users of this group my question may verge on sacrilege, but my defense is that in my 21 years of drinking real beer, I drank my lifetime's share ;-)

Several years ago I was served a dealcoholized dark beer in a New York City rib house which to the best of my otherwise lousy recollection was made by Guinness. Has anyone ever heard of or know the name of the product?

I stand corrected. Had no idea of the existence of that beer. Joris

Think of all the people you've talked to who think Sam Adams is a "dark" beer.

Thank you, Lew. ;^} To my defence, the last time I saw Kaliber, must have been 1990 or thereabouts... Colour? Joris

Yeah. What Joris said. lol. It *was* a pretty tasty NA brew but I hear it's contract brewed in Canada now.

It's a straw coloured pilsner style product.

Thanks to all the posters. I probably misspoke in calling it "dark". I think Kaliber is what i was looking for and it is described by Guinness as being "deep amber". I have not had Malta but it sounds like it would be too sweet. If I can come across a bottle, I shall report back!

You're more likely to come across it, on the East Coast, at least, in the "Hispanic" section of your local supermarket on the bottom shelf. Usually, one or two brands- GOYA in a 7 oz. 10 pack or long neck 12 oz. individual bottles the most common. I saw some sort of "premium" brand last time I dusted off the bottles...

(Supposedly the core business at The Lion (Stegmaier) brewery).

Yup, they brew a LOT of malta, and not just for Goya. It's brewed, it "ages" for 24 hours, and it gets bottled (I think they pasteurize it, too). Easy money for a brewery.
