Coffee Heaven :-)

A local grocery store started stocking green beans and custom-roasting it for you by the pound.

I chose Tanzanian Peaberry, and had them do a lighter roast than they normally would. (I hate really dark-roasted coffee. I want the beans to have a dry surface, or just a touch of oil. Even with Colombian coffee, I prefer a lighter roast than is usual.)

They hot-air roast it, just like a big hot-air corn popper.

I went home with my still warm bag of coffee, ground some, and made a cup.

I can now see why so many people roast their own coffee. It really is superior. :-)

It'll be better if you wait a bit. Coffee tastes better if it's allowed to rest after roasting.

Bit of a Gaggia thread going on on alt.coffee at the moment. Search on "gaggia expresso machines"

I bought a Krups espresso machine several years ago, but I just am not that fond of espresso.

It was on sale, so I couldn't resist. I guess it was gadgetitis or something. :-)

Espresso is good, but it just isn't something I crave. What I like is a nice cup of black coffee.

I also prefer coffee that is roasted fairly light, so that's probably part of it.

My wife is from Venezuela, and when we visit her family I drink espresso, although they don't call it that. Venezuelan coffee isn't quite roasted to an espresso level, but it's quite dark. Espresso machines are very common, and if you ask for coffee anywhere, that's what you get. At home, most people use one of those little stovetop espresso makers.

Again, it's good, but I start missing regular brewed coffee. :-)

Thanks for the tip.

I think it actually may taste even better this morning. I just had a cup and it's not quite as aromatic, but it has a smoother taste. Yum! :-)

I also did a bit of research on the web and ran across Sweet Maria's. Lots of temptin stuff there. :-)
