ESPRESSO MAKING AND MILK FROTHING INSTRUCTIONS

Hello,

I would like to know if there are sites with documents (books, videos), for beginners, about espresso and specially about frothing, steaming milk. A good site i know, containing, a lots of articles, books, videos is David Schomer's that one can find with a popular search engine looking for: " Espresso Vivace Roasteria".

The problem is that D.Schomer'a books and videos cost much more than my espresso/cappuccino equipment! So what can i do!

Amazon sells Schomer's "Espresso Coffee: Professional Techniques" for $27.95, plus a special order cost. If your espresso equipment costs less than that, it's time for new equipment.

Books and video's are fine, but I think there's no substitute for experience and experimentation.

My tips for what they're worth:

  1. If you're making a cappucino you can't go wrong - just froth away.
  2. If you're steaming the milk (latte etc), then this is where it gets technical. You need to keep the bubbles in the milk to a minimum (zero if you can) and make sure that the milk doesn't get too hot.
  3. Use twice as much milk as you need, but don't fill the jug more than 1/2
  4. Tip the jug on about a 45 degree angle and keep the nozzle just below the surface.

Have fun!
