Can anyone tell me if a refractometer can be used the same way as a hydrometer? If so is there a conversion formula or table, from brix to gravity? I was thinking of getting one so I dont have to waste so much beer checking f.g., alcohol%.

I use a program called ProMash that has all the information you need built right in. It has conversions and tables and will take you through the whole process . Oh, by the way, a refractometer does indeed work as well...
