Old Speckled Hen (Muntons Traditional Bitter)

May 17, 2007 1 Replies

Hiya,

I'm looking to develop a recipe for Old Speckled Hen. On a website I usually look through they suggested using Muntons Traditional Bitter as the basis.

Has any one any ideas what hops are used in this kit initially.

My plan is to add a kilo of Light Dry Malt Extract, steep about 200g of crystal malt (for some colour) add 200g of brown sugar (for colour and alcohol content) and also boil up some Goldings Hops.

With the hops I'm thinking 15g for 30 minutes

15g for 5 minutes and let sit for 5 minutes at flame out.

If you've used the Muntons kits, let me know what it's like. Any help would be much appreciated.

How about checking out the book 'Clonebrews' that has a recipe for Old Speckled Hen - or even easier, order the kit from the authors:
