Four out of four is a really bad fluke. But, she's now prepared to handle the situation w/ teas already received from Upton so, the possibility of her mother receiving a poor bd gift is averted.

May I ask which teas you received samples of and which of those were stale? I ordered some samples for myself that weren't in any of the starter sets and I'm curious.

Upton has little tins for sale. I was going to look at them, but got a dnserror because it couldn't find uptontea.com. Do you happen to recall exactly when they were going to change servers? I'm wondering if it got delayed to now.

I'm thinking there's another option - asking Adagio to explain the totally useless tea. There's the off chance that they use a distribution center for shipping, and don't know that stale tea is being shipped.

I think it was either the 16th or 17th, and when I was connected earlier, the front page said something like, "Congratulations! This means you have found us at our new server..." which made me think it had happened. The pages were loading lightening fast at first, so I think they did change servers, only not well. Sniffle.

If everyone's dumping the tea, saving the tins, and saying "oh, well, at least the teapot's good," that's very possible.

I just tried again and still got an error. Pro'lly hasn't propagated to my neck of the woods, yet. Sometimes, dns changes take a couple or more days to get around the 'net so, will simply have to try again, later.

I think Upton *is* blaming me... now my connection is outright refused!

Their cheapest darjeeling and formosa oolong were decent, but then I decided to try the premium versions of these. So, it was the darjeeling no. 2 and whatever their other formosa oolong is. And let me tell you, they weren't just not fresh, they were either very old, stored improperly, or both. I REALLY liked their ceylon, but getting 2 stale teas in one order is enough to keep me from buying tea from them again.

I'm not sure I like that it's luck of the draw any better. Are you going to contact them?

Hmm. Adagio's darjeeling #2 is one of my favorite teas. Admittedly it has been quite some time since I purchased a sampler of it. The cannisters that Adagio uses for larger orders are more air-tight than the ones they use for samplers. I don't know how far in advance either is packaged.

Yup, that Darjeeling #2's on my list so will be sure to brew it up 1st. Others I ordered are: Apricot Green, Black Currant, Dragonwell, Earl Grey Green, Keemun Concerto Mao Feng, Pi Lo Chun, and Snow Buds.

Let's see... I ordered a sampler of Adagio's darjeeling #2 (which is Gopaldhara second flush) 9/29/04, 4 oz on 10/3/04, and 2 oz on 12/7/04. So it has been a couple of months since I have ordered that one.

Right now, I am drinking (among other things) a Gopaldhara First Flush that I picked up from the Chado Tea Room in Pasadena, CA. So that is how I'm getting my Gopaldhara fix at the moment. :-)

I'm not sure I understand what you meant by saying the leaf was "dry." The Gopaldhara leaf is kind of "fluffy" (i.e. less dense, one tsp weighs less than some of the other darjeelings). Usually, I can't SEE that a tea is stale, I just notice that it doesn't seem to have much taste when I brew it.

I've been reading the bizrate.com reviews for this year and while there are a few negatives about the teas, most are positive. It appears that Adagio is that little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead: when good, very, very good, but when bad, horrid.
