Black teas suitable for iced tea ?

Hi -

I've read in a couple of places that all black teas are not suitable for making iced teas as they tend to 'bruise' and become cloudy in the process (i suppose the easiest way of verifying this would be to experiment, but at the moment i'm at work and the thought just occurred).

I've read in a couple of places that Argentian teas are best for iced teas (as they do not bruise). Can anyone verify any of this ?

Do you really mean that all black teas are not suitable, or that not all black teas are suitable? I hate to pick on your language, but the meaning is considerably different.

The statement that prompted this question was taken from the Twinnings website :

"Teas from Argentina tend to be plainer. Their neutral flavours lend themselves to blending.

The majority of the harvest finds its way into the iced teas of North America. Argentinian tea has the unusual property of retaining its clarity when poured over ice. Less forgiving teas cloud when subjected to the shock of ice."

Well ?

Hello,

From what I know you can indeed use Black Teas for making Iced Tea. You could try out this recipe which uses an Irish Black Tea. Read it at

For this recipe you don't necessarily need loose tea, instead you can split a tea bag and use it's contents. It's nice and refreshing!

I believe that Nilgiri teas are good for making iced teas as they do not cloud when mixed with honey and cooled down rapidly.
