oolong dryness?

has anyone ever experienced throat dryness from oolongs prepared gongfu style? i have a lower quality pouchong and 2 high grades of champagne oolong (oriental beauty) and all seem to have this effect. the best quality champagne oolong i have, has the least of this effect.

i wonder if this is normal or maybe my brew parameters are a little off?

I don't know about *throat* dryness, but *mouth* dryness is more or less the definition of excessive astringency. That would come from overbrewing.

hmmm. this is definitely a back of the throat feeling but much like astringency felt in the mouth. just in a different spot. i'll try reducing my times a bit.

here's what i tend to do now with the top grade oriental beauty (from tenren):

heat water until vapor rises quickly, about 185 rinse yixing pot, add leaves and rinse again. the wiry leaves dont seem to infuse too well unless they get rinsed quickly. steep 30 sec..

Hi Ben,

No, that's unusual. On the contrary it's supposed to stimulates the flow of saliva to help you quench your thirst.

You might have overbrewed your teas.
