Re: Caffeine revisited

I was given some Darjeeling. Nothing fancy, just some mid-grade organic

Are we talking about 5 or 6 sets of leaves or, say, 2 sets with 3 steeps each?

Don't forget caffeine enters the liquor faster at higher temperatures. You're brewing the Darj hotter than the Japanese green, right? And maybe brewing it longer too?

More like 2 or 3 sets of 2 steeps each. In the winter, this easily can go up to 4 or 5 sets. I should point out that I never have tea in the morning, drinking my first cup usually about 4 or 5 hours after breakfast.

Yes on both counts; this Darjeeling is being brewed at 212F for 3 minutes. In our discussion some months back, my conclusion was while dry tea leaves may all have the same caffeine content, be they green or black or oolong, the resulting brews are another matter altogether. Such appears to be the case with this Darjeeling.
