Re: Mystery tea

I've been wondering about this for a long time - I bought some of those in China, because they looked cool. They're

*intensely* bitter. I was afraid that there was something wrong with them!

Well, enjoy I guess.

The ropes shape description might fit to some kind of "Kuding cha" (Kuding tea). This kind of herbal tea is produced with a plant of the same genus of Mate called "Ilex kudingcha C. J. Tsang". It gives a very pale and intensely bitter liquour. It is apreciated for its cooling and depurative effect. LZ

I bought a version of this herb from Generation Tea, and it is NOT intensely bitter.. only very slightly. I find it rather refreshing.

The batch I bought from Silk Road will probably be my standard of bitterness for the foreseeable future.

Ah.. Silk Road, the company that really doesn't care much about selling tea. ;)

Yet he does make a slight effort to sell some of it.

Actually it may be more fair to say that he cares about doing commerce with tea-vendors instead of the general buying public, since his teas are featured in nearly every online tea-shop in the USA, much as Rishi Tea cares much less about selling to individuals than institutions. Who can blame either of them? The money is in wholesaling, not retailing.
