vacuum sealing tea

I just bought a Tilia Foodsaver vacuum sealer. Can I use it to seal up tea (loose and bagged) to keep it fresh? How about then putting it in the freezer?

Thanks, Dee

Wouldn't vacuum packing tea leaves crush them? Maybe not if they are in a jar or something like that, but I think if it was in a bag the leaves would be crushed to a powder. Of course, something like a gunpowder green, where the leaves are rolled would probably be ok.

Please let us know if you try it and it works for you. I'm always up to find out a new way to storing tea, I've been buying smaller and smaller sizes since I can't seem to get a good brew out of old tea leaves.

Hi Dee,

It's ok to vacuum seal your tea leaves but try not to put it in the freezer as it can pick up moisture, which can damage your tea leaves. Store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat.
