Anyone had a GM Strathisla 40 year old?

Question

I can't find any information on this beast. My friend is turning 40 and I wanted to get him a 40 year old scotch. I know of two locally: A Laphroaig

40 at $485, and a Strathisla 40 at $259. Both are cheap for the age, but obviously one is cheaper than the other. I have had the Strathisla 12 and I enjoy it, but I'm a bit nervous about the 40... Doing a web search, it looks like it's a Gordon and MacPhail bottling

I'm pretty sure that was the label. Anyone had it? I bet he'd enjoy the Laphroiag more, but I don't want to spend that kind of coin... Thanks,

try this linkIt's a UK site but has a 40yo Strathisla for GBP102.99which is just under $190,  It might still be cheaper to ship.  It doesn't say whether the bottle is distillery bottled, or whether it's a GM bottling. My guess is distillery.  You could always ask.  If he's not a peaty whisky fan, the Strathisla will be smoother.  Strathisla is known as the "heart of Chivas Regal", one of the better blended scotchesRoger
