I found the claim that phenols in the Islay malts could be bad for ones health a frightening prospect as I have stocked a lot of it in my collection. I have a case of the Laphroaig 10 year old Cask Strength that I really enjoy. I talked with a friend of mine that is a chemist and he told me there are many phenols, a compound found in most plant matter. So apparently we eat a lot of phenols with our veggies and drink a lot of them with our Islay malts. I was told that some phenols are very beneficial while others are poisonous so to determine the risk you have to know precisely what phenols you are ingesting.
Soooooooo..I decided that I'd keep drinking my Islay malts and keep eating my vegetables.
I hoist my dram of Laphroaig 10 CS in honor of your liver and mine.
