Expert opinion on FWP

After browsing some of the previous exchanges with the FWP troll, I was curious to know if anyone on the group has ever had a chance to bring up the FWP issue with someone in the industry and if so, what was their response? Could this be why Jim McEwan left M-B for Bruichladdich ;o) ?

I did one time ask Jim Murray if he knew what this was all about and he said that in theory, you could find the taste of perfume in almost any whisky. While I agree that many malts have perfume notes on both the nose and palate, I don't think he knew what I was talking about as the FWP I've tasted in the Bowmore Darkest was definitely not a 'note' or a 'trace', just some hideous demon that drove me out of Oddbins to the nearest pub for a pint to wash out my mouth ;o)

I wonder if any of the industry cognocenti have had similar experiences. Then again, perhaps their samples are Parker-ized?

Johanna: thanks for the Glendronach heads up! As for the FWP matter, there is much water under the bridge at this point, involving Bushido, Derek Gilchrist (Whisky Marketing Director for Morrison Bowmore back several years ago), the mailed FWP sample from Bushido, and the origin of the phrase "self styled whisky connoisseurs". I have personally had the FWP experience, so I could care less about hawk's schoolyard profanity and bully tactics. To see what was happening back then, just Google "Derek Gilchrist" and look at the item posted by "nano" (Mike Wade, one of the and admired intrepid Malt Maniacs!). Slainte! Ed

Yes on Islay but as I didn't ask for "quotes" I'm not prepared to give names here. However... No-one I asked had heard of it.

Im not prepared to give names. But I did get a very nice bottle as a consolation gift from a big wig who knew of the FWP issue and during our discussions admitted that there was truth to the issue.
