It's a good whisky.

(I'm sorry--I RAIL against restaurant reviewers who use the word "good"--like the fried calamari was "good", and the chicken pasta was "good").

Anyway, it IS good--not to mention enjoyable, and with good individual character. And it's a not a bad buy at all at $30-- PARTICULARLY in sourthern Mississippi.

Good choice with the Glenmorangie 10 (I presume). And the price is better than in my area ($36). Cheers, Ed

Thank you for confirming my (neophyte) opinion. My love affair with scotch whiskey is just now starting to bloom, and I'm quite eager to learn and experience the range of tastes and expressions available I'm curious, Mr Hoyt, have you ever been to South Mississippi? It isn't the most cosmopolitan center of culture in the world, to be sure....but your response, errr......well, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. If you haven't been here in the last 15 years or so, I would cordially invite you to visit and sample the local hospitality!

My step-mother worked at a VA hospital in Gulfport. She raised sheep, and her husband started stocking a catfish pond, near Poplarville. She commuted 90 minutes each direction every day in her Ford Mercury from Poplarville to Gulfport. I remember a trip to Ship Island on the coast, where there is a fort, and you can stand on the top level of the remnants, where intrepid hurricane-observers barely survived standing in the same spot, as the waves swelled to their limit, back in the 1970's.

I never even CONSIDERED looking for whisky down there!

Ah, Mr Hoyt, the whiskey was never in short supply in your "neck of the woods" back in the 70's, but most of it was sold in Maison Jars! You could drink it, strip floor wax with it, or pour it in your gas tank! But, yes, the supply has become much more refined and varied, with malts and blends from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, etc, as well as the occasional jar of "corn squeezins" sold in 2 liter coke bottles up around Poplarville. My biggest decision right now is," should I get the Macallan, the Balvenie, the Dalmore, or the GlenMorangie?" Which bottle would you buy next, Mr Hoyt? ( I looked for some Talisker, but the store owner said I would have to buy the whole case...damn near $600US! My wife would kill me and bury me in the back yard. ) Your opinion would be appreciated.

I would get the Macallan or the Glenmorangie. Come to think of it--get both.

OK, great! That pretty much confirms my blind hunch. I'm gonna get the Glenmorangie first, then get the Macallan for my birthday...thanks for your opinion. And sometime in between, I'll probably try the Dalmore, just to see...
