The Aberlour a'bunadh is the richest sherried malt I've had in recent history. Although I may get condemned for this confession, I sometimes add a few drops of distilled water to tame the beast a bit. The water calms the initial attack and brings out the sherried sweetness. Water or not, you can't go wrong with a bottle of "Boona" on the shelf.

There's nothing wrong with adding water to any whisky. Those who say otherwise are snobs who should know better.

I agree. If I could only buy one whisky, Aberlour a'bunadh would be my first choice. Bowmore 17 second.
If I could only buy one distilled spirit, it would be a dark Rum from Barbados or Jamaica.
If I could only buy one alcoholic beverage, it would be a dry red Italian wine.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
Another thing I like about Aberlour a'bunadh is its versatility. Its character changes as you add a few drops of branch water, although I generally prefer it neat.

Thanks Rajmund, Bill and Daniel. Sounds like I need to do some investigating of the a'bunadh. Don't think it's available in my state, but I know it's in a shop in another state where a friend lives, so he may be getting a favor asked of him in the near future...

Sounds a little high. That's about what I pay in Canadian dollars in a high-price province. I see it listed on a number of U.S. web sites in the $60-$70 range. If you have a choice of stores, you may want to shop around.

ps My youngest daughter turned 21 yesterday and I opened a bottle of Highland park 15yr single cask for the occasion. Much richer and full bodied than either the 12 or 18. I find HP to be a jack of all trades and master of none kind of dram, though I do enjoy it, 'specially when the 12 is on sale for $25-30 ;) The single cask sweetness really jumps out at first on the tip of the tongue with a light smokey finish and a much more "singular" (ouch) experience.
