Irish whiskies thread

OK, I've got to jump into this one...if only for the Knappogue Castle Irish Single Malt whiskey

A post about Wild Turkey Rare Breed

...one of my favorite bourbons..

An actual Irish Whisky post about Knappogue Castle

ah...no HERE's another of my favorites...I discovered this about 7 years ago at the Whiskey Expo in San Francisco...it was the 1992 Knappogue...one I wish I could find again, as it was made by Cooley Distillery...the later 1993 and 1994 is made by Bushmill's

Now, here's the thing...the original Knappogue, made in 1951, is VERY rare, and until 3 weeks ago, I never had the opportunity to sample it.

When I went to Las Vegas for The Police concert at the MGM Grand, I had wandered to New York New York, and found their Nine Fine Irishmen Restaurant and Pub...lo' and behold, they had BOTH Knappogues (1994 AND 1951) as well as the standard Jameson's, Bushmill's, Tullamore Dew and Cooley offerings.

At $80 a shot (the price has JUST gone UP, too!), it was serves in a small brandy snifter to me...and WOW...one helluva whiskey! Nice smooth nose, with a bit of a bourbon-like peppery-ness to the finish, and WELL worth the charge.

Now I've to try the Green Spot..some day.

Anyhoo, try the Knappogue...I don't think you'll be disappointed in the least.
