Isle of Jura

Am new to the group and to single malts.

I decided not to open my Macallan for New Years (being a cheap SOB).

So I bought a bottle of Isle of Jura, costs about the same as premium blended scotch. All I can say is WOW. It's good stuff. Buddy and I drank half the fifth (750).

So what does the educated newsgroup think of Jura?

Go ahead and hurt my feelings, becaise I admit upfront that I don't squat about single malts.

I am surprised that is scores so low in the reviews I've seen. Like you, I thoroughly enjoy Jura. I tried a few of various expressions on the island the year before last and my VFM award went to the 10 year old which I find has a pleasant fishy character which I find appealing.

the "standard" 10yr bottling is generally rated fairly lowly, although I have a soft post for it myself. the 16yr expression is a much tastier proposition altogether. Alternatively, look out for last year's new releases; "Superstition", "1984", or "Legacy" (only available through duty-free outlets)
