Isle of Jura Superstition

Isle of Jura Superstition. Just tried this dram and it is interesting. Seemeded really harsh and sharp until cut with water. When cut with water it reminds me of a light Islay or slighlty heavy speyside. Very nice after the water which seemed to really liberate the aroma and flavors. Comments?

The first sip I took reminded me strongly, which makes a little sense, of the standard Isle of Jura, which I had not tasted in about a decade. The reason I had not tasted it in about a decade is because rated it about bottom of all the malts I had tried.

But the Superstition had this little hump of dullish but uniquely salty flavor just like the regular Jura, but it was just a TOUCH smoother. And just as a kicker, it actually had a FINISH. And it not only had a finish, it had this pretty waft of peat that wasn't huge by any stretch of the imagination, but it started to make the Jura interesting. In fact, it not only made it interesting, it made it intriguing, and unexpectely pleasurable.

For me, the Jura Superstition, though it doesn't have BIG peat notes on the order of it's Islay cousins across the waters, has enough mildness, balance, interesting notes, and gentle peat pleasure to make it perfectly drinkworthy. I'll probably not have the standard Jura 10 again unless I'm already lying under the table and someone is trying desperately to rouse me, but I enjoy the Jura Superstition because it has essentially ALL of the elements that make Jura at least distinctive (if still a bit plain and flawed) but ameliorates the flaws by adding a dimension of peat and smoothness that gives it some dimension and LIFE. In fact, it's quite nice. Maybe that's why they use the ankh symbol?
