I am also a big fan of the standard 16 yo, and I think the Lagavulin DE is an outstanding whisky. It is a great example of sherry finishing done very, very well. Buy the bottle, you won't regret it. In fact, buy two.

I have the Lagavulin 16 and the Aberlour a'bunadh, both of which I like very much. I haven't tried the others you mention.

Like you, I'm on a very tight budget. ;-(

I've tried the Lagavulin 1990/2006 Distillers Edition, and I liked it just as much as the standard 16 yo. The peat was typically "lagavulinish", and in addition the sherry was noticable with dried fruit and more sweetness. I thought it worked swell together :^)
