It is worth trying. Very different from the Laphroaig 10 yr. Still smokey and plenty of peat, but with a more mellow character and a sort of nutty walnut flavor component. You might also consider the Ardbeg

I shouldn't bother Paul. The 15 yr is in my experience less than the 10 yr... So if they also sell 10 yr Cask Strength, go for that one in stead... It's great. And what Hawk's writes is my experience too with Ardbeg... In fact I like the standard Ardbeg 10 much more than the 17 yr old (which I regret buying). Strange though... that (and I have to be modest as I haven't tasted more than 40 whisky's... so who am I?) I was saying: strange though that it seems to me that the 'standard' bottlings of Islay are much better than the ones one step up (I've no experirience with the really expensive stuff); while in the mean time a glenlivet 18 yr tastes so much better than the standard one, and the same goes up for Glenfiddich imho... I love it. It reminds me of the runway of an airport after a day of large jet aircraft landing and taking off. Deliciously complex with a slight sweetness that isn't there in the 10 year old.

A runway after large jets taking off? lol. Now that's an interesting description. I don't even think Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible has such a unique description!
