My Collection Feb./04

Over the last year or so I've attempted to build up a collection of single malts. I thought it would be neat to share the list with the group and get suggestions on what to fill it out with. Personal favorites are noted with a "*". Here goes, in no particular order:

Bruichladdich 15 (new McEwan edition) * Bruichladdich 15 (older version in blue tube) Bruichladdich first edition "Wee Laddie" tasting pack (10, 15, XVII) The Balvenie Doublewood * Highland Park 12 * Old Pulteney 12 * Glenlivet "Archive" 21 Ardbeg 1990 (Gordon & MacPhail) * Isle of Jura 10 Aberlour 10 Aberlour a'bunadh (59.8%) * The Arran 1995 single cask (58.4%) Glenfarclas 10 Glen Keith 10 Bunnahabhain 12 The Dalmore Cigar Malt Lagavulin 16 * Lagavulin Distillers Edition Talisker 10 * Talisker Distillers Edition * Cragganmore Distillers Edition Oban

A colleague gave me the Distillers Edition display rack you see sometimes in bars, which explains the 3 DEs on the list.

Wow - major jealousy from me right now - I just ran out of Lagavulin 16 and Cragganmore now I am down to 2:

Macallan 12 (which is almost gone) Balvenie 12 (which is almost gone)

:-(

My budget will allow me to pick up a Ardbeg 10 shortly, but man - your collection is truly good!

How's the George T. Stagg? How much did you pay for it? It's the highest rated whisky in Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible 2004.

It is outstanding, although Murray was rating the 2002 model, I believe. I paid $85 for it, which is pretty good considering it is over 70% ABV.

A question: are all of these bottles open? When you add a new bottle to your collection, do you open it when you feel like drinking a dram or two, then just let it sit in your collection until a few weeks/months later when you feel like drinking it again. Or, once opened, do you like to finish the bottle in a week or so before you open another bottle?

Here is what's in my collection (it's kind of IB and Islay heavy):

Caol Ila 11 y.o. 1991 46% (Sig UCF, much better than the 12 y.o. 1990 I once had...in my opinion)

Laphroaig 12 y.o. 1987 46% (MM Leapfrog, bourbon cask)

Laphroaig 16 y.o. 1987 50% (Douglas Laing OMC, single cask non-chill filtered)

Ardmore 11 y.o. 1992 46% (Sig UCF, bourbon barrel)

Bruichladdich 14 y.o. 1989 57.9% (G&M cask strength [direct fill from oak cask...refill sherry hogshead] non-chill filtered)

Longrow 10 y.o. 1993 46% (OB, not chill filtered)

Lagavulin 16 y.o. 46% (OB, Port Ellen)

Glen Rothes 12 y.o. 1990 46% (Sig UCF, matured in sherry butt....WAY too much sherry in this one!)

Ardbeg 10 y.o. 46% (OB, "TEN")

The Bruichladdich is only one from a distillery I've never tried (picked it up this weekend).

I probably have two-thirds open and drink what I have a feel for at the time.

No. About half are.

Yes though once it about half gone, I drink it more frequently.

No. My choice of malt varies according to my mood and other circumstances so this wouldn't work for me!
