Glenmorangie Burgundy wood finish

Next month, the 'Glenmorangie Burgundy Wood Finish' is offered for a special price in the Netherlands (and although I don't know the price yet, I hope it will be much cheaper than normal...) My question: Anybody ever tasted it (I couldn't find anything in the archives...) and wanting to share with what I can compare this whisky (if comparing is possible...) before I have to buy a bottle to find out myself..?

Thanks, Michel

You can try it for a few euros since Gall&gall is selling miniatures already

Thanks Frans... I didn't know that... (the saleswoman should have told me, but presumably forgot... Just bought a miniature, and the taste is oke, although not completely mine, so I think I don't have to go to G&G for a whole bottle next month...

Thanks, Michel

Correction! My previous statement was after just a sniff and a sip... After drinking the whole miniature, I think I like it. It's very aromatic fruity in the nose, while in the mouth its some sort of sweet, but in a good 'balanced' way (at least the sweetness didn't bother me). Aftertaste was short, but does make you want to have more...

So I think I will buy a bottle. Michel

I don't care for any of the wine flavored Glenmorangie versions that I have tried. Glenmorangie is delicate and subtle and is easily overpowered by these wine flavors. Just my opinion.

I really liked the Madeira expression of Glenmorangie, I found that the added sweetness brought out more vanilla flavo(u)r.

Different strokes for different folks.

But disaster has struck here, there was no Springbank nor Talisker in stock at the local "Liquor Barn". I escaped with only a bit of Lebanon bologna, some dill havarti, a couple of bars of Lindt chocolate (milk chocolate truffles and raspberry filled), Blair's After Death Sauce, a bottle of Buffalo Trace and a bottle of Booker's.

I figure that I got away cheap, because there were several bottles of Ardbeg 17 locked up in the display case that I had to leave. :(

Too bad about the Taliker, my favorite!

However; "Blair's After Death Sauce, a bottle of Buffalo Trace" I know what all the items are have tased them but these two I'm unfamiliar with? Enlighten me, please. And just what kind of party where you preparing for, these are all (I think) specialy items?

Hi Robert,

Speaking of Jack Daniels (in the quote in your email footer)...I had some Old No. 7 recently. While I drank it, all I could think of was bananas! Banana smell and taste seemed to dominate the whiskey.

Blair's After Death Sauce is a VERY hot sauce, it's pretty much at the limit of my tolerance for heat. I use very little of it and pretty much just keep it around for some of my more extreme chile-head friends.

Buffalo Trace is a moderately priced Bourbon but it's not very widely distributed (KY, OH, IN and IL). It's one of my favorites.

It wasn't for a party, the "Liquor Barn" has a large selection of imported and speciality foods so i generally pick up a few things when I'm there shopping for whisk(e)y.

It's getting around now. If it's in British Columbia -- and it is -- it's nearly everywhere. And yes, very nice.

I;m not much for Bourbon so I wont go looking for the Buffalo Trace, Rob, but the hot sauce I will go looking for as I'm a fanatic for anythiing hot. My wife can't understand how I can just open the refrigerator anytime of the day and pop a couple of Cherry Peppers for a snack. Of course I tell her it is better than cheese, bread, cookies, etc!! I do the same for a Talisker as well but I'd never be able to function very well for most of the day so I wait until the evening for a dram.

You'll be missing out on a bargain whiskey.

The "Blair's After Death Sauce" is a bit beyond hot for most people. "Blair's Death Sauce" it too hot for most.

Yep, you get a, mostly harmless, endorphin rush from the pepper, whereas with cheese, cookies and etc. you get an added artery clogging bonus.

Heh-heh, any day that you can start with a dram (of Talisker) is a very good day.

Let me warn you, as a subscriber and (now) rare poster to the "Chile-Heads Mailing List"[1] that "Blair's After Death Sauce" is *VERY FSCKing HOT* sauce, please try "Blair's Death Sauce"[2] first.

Regards, Rob

[1] [2] It's also pretty FSCKing hot too!
