It's going to be a marriage of different casks and probably different ages.Here's a write-up off the web:By William LoobThe 2002 distillery of the year winner Macallan also owes its uniquestanding in the Scotch whisky world to an unwavering adherence to tradition:100 percent sherry cask. Coming on the market this year is the Macallan CaskStrength (58.6% abv), the first undiluted Macallan available in the U.S. andthe first that hasn't been chill filtered. It has the richness of sherryaging as the other Macallan bottlings, but its spring blossom character anddeep chocolate tones perhaps stand out more prominently. There is no agestatement, though clearly there are some older casks in the mix. Thedistillery plans to make cask selections quarterly, so this will beavailable year-round. Proof or European c/s bottling to be 10 years of age... and I'm pretty sure it would have been labelled as a 10yo if it could have been. My two cents.

I would agree with the 'spirity' observation. My U.S. version is simply not of the same class as the European version.
