I was recently comp'd with a couple of 5 cl bottles of Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky "Aur Cymru", 46% abv. I chose Samuel Smith's "Old Brewery Pale Ale" as the chaser to clear my palate between drams. Not Guinness tap, but adequate.
I'm not a 'professional' whisky taster, just a professional drinker who knows what he likes, so excuse the lack of esoteric descriptions. The whisky had a lightly flowery, sweet and smooth nose. On the palate, I found it light, smooth, slightly 'oily' (in the way that a good Cuban cigar is, compared to non-Cubans), and quite pleasant. The finish, also, was very smooth, still 'oily', most pleasant and very lasting, even after the chaser. Overall, I thought it more like a fine Irish whisky than Scotch. I'll be getting my alcohol merchant (Vendome Liquor) to stock some and will buy a bottle when they do, because I liked it.
Has anyone else checked out Penderyn SM?
