where is everyone from on this group?

Generally speaking, Belgian beers are my favorite. Occasionally I'll find a microbrew that I like better. Goose Island in Chicago (!) made a "Bourbon county stout" which is astonishingly good...and $150.00 a case. A heavy stout with an immense grain bill, matured for many months in bourbon barrels. The flavors are immense, varied, and complex.

Yes, many refugees. But also the restaurants. Sadly we lost a great treasure in New Orleans. Martin's Wine Cellar. They had the most wonderful single malt selection, not to mention the great wine and cheeses. They went underwater (GASP!) as well as looted. But they will return! How did you find your way to Eunice? Great food, music and people. Only know of Jo Jo Reed from listening to his music. Never seen him live. Come see us again after we muck out.

Actually we did, a couple of years ago in the early hours of the morning. I woke up a minute before it hit, feeling very uneasy.

Both my dogs, on the other hand, slept soundly through it. Mystic animal senses? You can keep 'em.

IMHO Erdinger is one of the worst wheat beers you can buy in Germany. Growing to fast the quality got down in the last 20 years. Try some other you can get a hand on, e.g. Schneider, Kapuziner, Maisel, Franziskaner, a lot more smaller and smallest breweries are making superb wheat beer.

Living in upper franconia, a district of bavaria, we have the most breweries per inhabitant in the whole world. Each of them has different beers, it is like scotch, it will last decades to try it all. So I hope you won't mind if I say, that our beers are the best of the world.

The point is that the dogs KNEW it was only a 3.0 and that they had nothing to worry about.

These are cocker spaniels we're talking abut here - I really, really suspect they're just too stupid.

Lovely dogs, mind.

You're not claiming that cocker spaniels aren't astonishingly stupid here, are you? If you are, I've got a dog you should meet. "Box of rocks" doesn't _begin_ to describe it's mental abilities.

The three cockers I've owned weren't complete boxes of rocks but I often wondered if they barked and tried to run simultaneously what would happen. (And they're more Mental than many cats.)

Mine would probably _aspire_ to 'box of rocks' levels of braininess.

Mind you, they prefer single malts to blends so there's something going on in those dense little heads of theirs.

OK, just checking.

If I had any Clan McGreggor in the house, I might consider giving it a shot (heh)

I'm not familiar with that one - good? Or are we talking 'Asda Special Scotch-Like Product' here?

While I call it cooking Scotch or supermarket Scotch, it's tolerable.

Worst you say? I know my scotch alright and can certainlt appreciate a decent beer. I have tasted worse than Erdinger though. I expect with its popularity the quality has gone down and if you know it better than I, then I expect you will have noticed. I only know it since a few years. I like Rauch Bier a lot too although I seem to find it hard to come by. Franziskaner I was looking at last week and wondered if I should give it a try or not. After reading what you have written, I certainly will give it a try.

I wouldn't wash my feet in it. rail-scotch, might even call it "distilled spirit from Scotland" rather than "Scotch"?

I found my way to Eunice via the neighbour of the psychologist of Oakdale Federal prison. Heh heh, I bet that will have readers wondering:-) I work for the Dutch Justice dept. and do assesments of psychiatrically disturbed inmates. I had a contact via the justice dept. and was over for an exchange programme for the treatment of disturbed inmates. So this pshychologist lives in Eunice and his neighbour streamed Radio KBON on the internet at the time. I had my accordion with me and he got me on the show to play and sing. There is a page of my adventures there here:

I listen a lot to The Rajun Cajun who brodcast from Crawley LA I believe via internet. Anyway this is way off topic, but I sure will try and get back. I am giving a whisky nosing and tasting session in Ft Lauderdale Florida in March, so will be in the region. I might hop over to Cajun Country. I also feel bad for New Orleans. I have been there too as you can see on my page. I like the restaurant there called Jacuemo's (sp?).

I took Ardbeg to a crawfish boil:-)

Peace,
