1999 Mantlerhof Riesling

Hello,

I have several bottles of a 1999 Mantlerhof Riesling that have been stored in a cool, dry place for a few years now. I'm not sure the wine is drinkable, or what to serve it with, etc. I did some searching on Google, wine.com and some other web sites and cannot find any information about this wine at all. It's almost like it doesn't exist, except for the part where I have some bottles of it ;)

I was hoping someone could provide some information about this wine.

Thank you,

Kim

Any other identifying info on the label, eg place of origin Rhine,Mosel, name of producer? This info will help trace this wine.

Kim,

This is an Austrian Riesling - see

The winery is well-known in Austria.

Since 1999 was an excellent vintage in Austria, this wine should be very well drinkable. Personally I like pairing Riesling and fish/seafood.

Hi Tom,

Here's the complete information from the label:

MANTLERHOF RIESLING

1999 Wieland Gedersdorf - Kremstal (then in very small type at the bottom it says) Qualitatswein L/F 55555/00 - Trocken - Osterreich Gutsabfulling - Weingut Mantlerhof - A3494 Gedersdorf

There's a small logo on the bottom left that says "TraditionsWeinguter - Osterreich"

The yellow band around the neck of the bottle says "Josef und Margit Mantler".

I hope that helps, and thank you for writing back!

Kim

Hi This is outside of my competence but I see from my sources that Wieland 2002 by Mantlerhof was a splendid wine (91 points) destined to keep up to 6 years. Your 1999 should be fine to drink now. hth Anders

Mantlerhof is a winery located in Kremstal, Austria.

Kremstal is one of 8 regions in "lower" Austria (Niederosterreich)

Wachau is perhaps the best known of the 8, and contains some of the top, even Robert Parker (ooo!) recognized wineries. Here, Riesling is king, and the Austrians rather like to think this is where the grape originated. (however, this is also the place where some of the very best Gruner Veltliners are made, and with it's steep terraced terrain, you can really taste the crisp minerals in the wine.)

Kremstal and Kamptal produce some wines that are equal in quality to those of the Wachau, which shouldn't come as a huge shock since the western part of Kremstal is geologically identical to its better known neighbor. Then in the Kamptal there is this enormous crag around which the old vine Rieslings yield their comparable candidates.

I realized that up until now I was being quite rude and not signing my posts, so I hope this info helps, Emily (winemonger)

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I'll go ahead and try the wine with dinner one night.

Thanks again, Kim
