BBQ and Trinitas

I spent sunday making BBQ for twelve guests at my farm. I have a Bradley Smoker (love it!) and after twelve hours in the fridge in a dry rub I smoked baby back ribs for 4 hours at 200F with a cider vinegar mop every 45 minutes or so. I finished the ribs in foil in the oven for about an hour as I smoked four cut-up fryers. The ribs and chicken were then finished on the grill for a few minutes with a ketchup based BBQ sauce glaze. I have a limited cellar at the farm so I opened a couple of bottles of Trinitas wines. 2002 Trinitas Russian River Zin and 2003 Old Vine Petite Syrah both were priced at $20. The Zin was well balanced and very much old school zin-like. Wild briary berry flavors a bit of vanilla and a peppery finish made it a good complement to the spice in the BBQ and a nice fresh acidity and tannin seemed to cut the fat well. The 2003 Old Vine Petite Syrah was inky black wioth a very juicy blackberry and blueberry note. Rich, hearty and delicious. I'd give both wines a solid "B+" on the Dale scale.
