Box wine pourer problem

In SoCal, they are selling "more premium" wines in boxes (at pretty premium prices, might I add). I bought a 3 liter box of Banrock Station 2003 Shiraz. After dispensing about 2 glasses, the "pourer" stopped working -- it releases a stream about the size of a strand of spaghetti, and even that stops in a minute or so. I've taked the bag out of the box, and held it in various positions just in case part of the bag was blocking the input to the spout, but that didn't help. Any suggestions (besides punching a hole in the bag)?

I'd take it back to the store. There's Cal cabs and such too, why did you buy the Australian stuff?

I've been tempted to buy one of these new box wines, but haven't bit yet. It seems like one was 27 bucks. What I'm afraid of is that they'll not get bought and I'll end up buying one that sat on the shelf too long. I think it's going to take a long time for the public to adopt quality boxed wines, but it is a good idea.

I meant to ask, how was it before it became inaccessible?

I forgot to mention that I bought at at a store 300+ miles away :-( I hadn't that wine before, like Shiraz, and it came to about $7 a bottle, so I experimented. Tasted good -- when I can get to it.

I've bought Banrock Station Shiraz in a box (it's not too bad at the price) and haven't had that problem. I think you just got a bad box.

Agreed. Any suggestion about how to fix it?

Sounds as if you might have a vacuum block in the bag...try punching a little hole in the top of the bag, then see if the flow increases. Make sure that air can get into the hole in the top.

I'm no fluid mechanics expert, but I'll be shocked if the wine remains in the bag - spout open or not - if you do go ahead and punch a hole in the bag.

That's the obvious last resort, but that lets air in, defeating the who purpose of the bag/box :-(

Punch hole only as last resort!

Turn the bag upside down so the spout is the highest po>

Worst case, if nothing else works, punch a hole in the bag and squeeze it into some clean bottles.

That idea sounds like a winner. The problem must be unusual, my wife and I have bought numerous 3l boxes (although from different vendors) and never experienced the problem. Jim
