2000 La Couspaude, St. Emilion

92-94 points from the Wine Spectator. 'A super, vivid wine, black in color. Gorgeous aromas of blackberries and Indian spices. Full-bodied, with velvety, fresh tannins. Long finish. (March-2001)' 91-93 points from Parker. 'Made from extremely low yields, this 3,000-case cuvee is produced from a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Although made in a modern style with plenty of creamy new oak, its aging potential should not be under-estimated. The terrific fat, sweet, opulent, multi-layered 2000 boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with copious quantities of black cherry liqueur, mineral, toasty oak, and roasted nut characteristics. Layered, voluptuous, and pure, this full-throttle effort should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and last for 16+. It is very sexy stuff. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2016. (Feb-2002)' Our notes - 70% Merlot and 30% Cab Franc. Definitely made in a flashy style, the La Couspaude is rich and toasty with layered, sweet middle fruit and a firm finish. Black cherry aromas and some black licorice flavors. The abundant tannins will ensure a long cellar life.
