Duboeuf in the merde

Bit in the Times this morning about Georges B.

Mr Battut the state prosecutor said that barrels holding the equivalent of

300000 bottles, were found to be a mixture of cheap, average and expensive wines. "Everything was mixed up together, he said.

M Duboeuf said that an error, rather than fraudulent practice, lay behind the scandal. None of the wine was released on the market. It seemed that a manager acting alone had mixed the wines and had not informed the company, and had since been replaced.

His company now sells 36 million bottles a year.

Japan is the biggest importer of Beaujolais, taking 850,000 cases a year.

Ho-hum.................................................
