Has anyone had Pineau des Charentes?

I was given a 2 compartment bottle of Pineau des Charentes that is heart shaped and has two necks with corks. One side contains a white Pineau and the other a rose. This is the first time I have seen a bottle of Pineau des Charentes in the US.

I find that is is made from grape must and Cognac, and it is aged in oak a while. The white often uses Ugni Blanc and Colombard must, while the rose uses Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon must. The rose usually is said to be sweeter than the white. The bottle I was given comes from Delpech Fougerat. Without knowing more, I might be tempted to serve it to older ladies who sip just a bit "for their health". However, if very well made, it might be decent.

Pineau des Charentes is *the* local drink in the Cognac region. I was really surprised in a supermarket in the town of Jarnac (the hometown of Courvoisier), where the Pineau shelf was roughly 5 to

6 times that of Cognac.

They do make a bit of white wine from the Ugni blanc as well, for local use and it has more acid than a young Savennieres, but it sure goes well with fresh oysters!

I find PcC pretty available around here, but I've only seen the white. Lower alcohol than cognac, similar to maybe port in ABV. OK well chilled

What I see is generally either Prunier or Pierre Ferrand, but I think a lot of Cognac makers produce a PdC.
