Memorial Day quaffs

I had four wines over the weekend at a friends cabin. Because of some of the meds I'm taking I didn't really take notes since I expectorated my sampling and had some problem with my taste buds due the fact that my meds make my mouth very dry, but here is my overall impressions:

1976 Sonoma Vineyards "River West" Zin. Still going strong even the next day, the immediate rush of briary, strawberry flavours are long gone and the whole structure of the wine was that of a good Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux. 88/100

1982 Ormes de Pez-Still complex and harmonious and a little past its peak but very drinkable 87/100

1989 Poggio Antico Rosso di Montalcino. Aging nicely, some tannins remain. Could reach peak soon. 89/100

1987 Vietti Barolo Castiglione. Although drinkable, this rich tarry violet scented wines has miles to go before its mature. 90/100

thanks. I have a bottle of either '82 de Pez or Ormes de Pez, will pop soon.

Wow, that's shocking to me. I've never considered aging a Rosso more than 6-8 years from vintage.

As we were saying other day, even from mediocre vintage Barolo can age well.

thanks for notes, feel better. Dale

Wow! '76 was a great year for Zins, but this is still pushing the envelope. Most interesting...

Nice notes, Joe. Thanks! And I hope that with time you and the meds can come to some sort of accord whereby you can taste without complication.
