TNs:A night at DC's Lavandou

Here are my brief (very) comments on a fine OL at Cleveland Park's Lavandou which featured a fine meal and a Pinot Noir oriented group of wines under the direction of Richard Waddington.

Personally. I favor Cal PN that are not trying to be Burgundian and wines from the beefier Burg communes like Pommard and Nuits St George.

1994 Dehlinger Goldridge Pinot Noir--85 pts at or past peak 1987 Mount Eden Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains--87-an older flat out fruity & tannic rendition of what this micro climate brings out in reds 1971 Sutter Home Zin, Deaver Ranch Amador--a blast from the past, old italian-american style zin gome mellow, still very berryish. From the Tilch Brothers back roon at Silesia (MD) Liquors in Fort Washington. Every serious collector should go there to joust with Mike over price.

Allegro Cadenza 1988- Last Meritage wine made by Saint John Crouch who left us too early-87 still has baby fat tannins and gobs of fruit. The beast of the East. Still available at the winery for $33.

1997 Vatan Sancerre Rouge- A Red wine from Loire thats not cab franc (praise God n Allah)-85- little varietal character bur a good quaff 1998 Paul Autard CnDP Cuvee la Cote Ronde-I found a little corkiness to destract in the nose but classic southern rhone nuances-86 2000 Paul Attard Cndp La Ronde-Coming on like gangbusters or John Ashcroft after some long hairs-89 1994 Lucien Albrecht Riesling Vendange Tardive-outstanding nose, lingering fruit-87

Loring Gary's Vyd. Good chunky pinot fruit. 89 Loring Clos Pepe Vyd. Great potential, rich complexity--90

1990 Domaine du Beaurenard cuvee Boisrenard CDP-Classic grenache flavours, still on the up side-89 1985 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Rose Reserve Champagne-The widow blushes-86 89 La Conseillante- Classic Pomerol, can't rate as high as Brer Bob who gave it 97 in its youth-88pts,

1999 Confuron-Contedidot Grand Echezaux-Good solid modern burgandy-88

2001 Du Mol Pinot Noir-Never heard of them but oodles of fruit and potential--91 2001 Roar PN Gary's Vineyard--I liked the Loring better for aging--89 1987 Dunn Cab-Rich, complex, needed decanting-90 Nuit St. Georges Les Damodes 1988 Jayer-Giles-my favorite burg of the evening--91 Pommard Noizzons, 1990 Juillot-A burgundy for the Gironde in us-87 1996 Amiot GC Combettes-shedding babyfat & tannins-for current drinking 88 1997 Flowers--Whats is this? Seems like pinot on steroids-too much of everything except acidity-87 1997 Pommard Rugiens-La Charriere-the best burg here for aging-91 1996 Beaune Vignes Franks-Germain--Very traditional solidity--86 1997 Givry Clos Servoisine-Jablot-straightforward burg without a lot of sublety.-86 Sea Santa Barbera PN 2001- Everything burgundian except the merde--88

Sorry I could be more descriptive & pardon my mispellings
