Portuguese wine question

This is for our Portuguese wine contributor (sorry, I forgot your name!). Do you feel the single varietal Quinta do Crasto wines (ie, the Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz) are worth enough to pay in the mid-upper US$30 range? I don't see these very often and thought they might be interesting to try. The last time I had a Q.d.C. table red was from the

1995 vintage. This was their most basic bottling (Douro I believe) and I was not that impressed, as I remember it being a bit hot and unwiedly, and I wonder if the quality has improved at this estate as it has at other Portuguese estates?

Thanks!

Mark S

Don't forget the Tinta Cao.

They were in our market at that and I felt that the original price was pushing the envelope.

When they reduced them to about $25, I snapped up a few of the 1999s.

They make excellent 'ringers' for blind tasting because people aren't used to Portuguese wines and aren't expecting them.
