Recommendations?

Hello, I'm looking for advice on a good wine that would work well as a gift for someone who prides themselves on their wine knowledge. I myself know absolutely nothing, so help is in order...

Preferrably something under $25 US.

Thanks.

There are a lot of wines that may work for you. Do you have any more information that could help us? French, American, Aussie, NZ, other Red, white. What do they tend to like? Great wines under 25 dollars US are easy, the right one, well that requires a lot of thought.

Honestly I don't know if they have any preference..

The problem with a question like yours is that nobody knows anything about the wine stores in your vicinity and what they carry. It's easy to recommend lots of good wines, but a recommendation for a terrific $25 wine won't do you any good if you can't find it. So better than asking here is going to a good local store, explaining your problem, and asking them what wines they have that meet your criteria.

Yes, that's a good point, especially if Aurora lives in a major Metropolitan area.

Her mailaddress is sympatico.ca Would that be California? If so, isn't it all a metropolitan area? (says the foreigner) Anders

Oh sure - pick a little country to compare with ;-)

But California is pretty big - almost half the size of BC......in fact you could throw in Washington and Oregon, and Maine before you'd equal it. But I admit you have a heck of a lot more grapes....

Hi;

Trius Red is a fine Hillebrand red wine that sells for $19.95 Canadian. It is a Niagara blend of Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, and Merlot. It is available through any outlet that sells Andres, Peller Estates or Hillebrand wines.

Hillebrand also makes a fine late harvest Vidal sugar point 8 at under $15.00 Canadian for a 375 Ml Bottle. Hillebrand Collectors series Cab -Merlot or Chardonnay are also great value at about $16.00 Canadian for a 750 ml bottle.

Sympatico .ca is a Canadian E-mail Address but It could be anywhere with in Canada as it is part of the Bell Telephone network.

Thanks everyone for the advice and recommendations..

I live in Ottawa, Canada--------which is very much a metropolitan area ;)

Quality, my dear Spohn, competes not with quantity. You in BC have lots of space, and even forests; but not California's deserts or grapes. And certainly not the southern California beaches known around the world, through such refined cultural entertainments as _Baywatch._ (Nor, I even wonder, have you many people left? I've seen estimates of 100,000 Canadian-born expatriates living in the San Francisco area alone; I seem to know at least that many personally. Many are from BC. Their hearts might remain there, but their persons are in California. ;-)

Warm holiday greetings to all! -- Max

Max - MORE people is not an inherently good thing. We export our rejects to California, thus raisng the average quality of those who are left........;-)

To paraphrase a local (Scandinavian) saying: "When a Canadian moves to the U.S. it raises the average IQ of both countries..." (normally used in Norway about citizens moving to Sweden, and in Sweden about those moving to Norway....) :-) Anders

And maybe raising the IQ level in California?
