How to find the value of found (parents) wine

Hello all,

While going through my parents house this past weekend we came across a two wine bottle gift set and was curious to find out the value. How can I go about learning more about this set as I didn't have any luck searching the internet myself. Is there anywhere I can go on the internet that can help me learn more about the value of this wine set?

This is what we found:

A two bottle gift box. This is a gift set from Mouton-Cadet (Baron Philippe De Rothschild). I found the box (without the wine bottles inside) for sale on eBay. You can see the box at the eBay link of:

The box contains two unopened bottles of red and white:

1.) 1988 Mouton-Cadet Bordeaux (Rothschild) 2.) 1989 Mouton-Cadet Bordeaux Blanc (Rothschild)

Does anyone know where I can learn more about this wine set?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this really isn't valuable. Both wines should have been drunk a while ago (and it probably would have been better to have the '89 red and '88 white). Mouton-Cadet is a simple wine (typical retailing for about $7-8/bottle) designed for immediate consumption. In a very good year it might last 10 years in the red. Unless you find a gullible buyer, you're better off drinking yourself.

Thanks for the help..."Don't shot the messenger", right?

I just did some quick searches when we found it and saw many of the Mouton Rothschild wines from those years going for a few hundred dollars each so I didn't want to waste it without knowing what the value of these exact wines were.

Thanks again...

Mouton is a good name it is the Cadet that does the deed to the value. It is somewhat akin to calling a Volkswagen a Porsche Junior

got it...thanks.

I assumed so much when all the "valuable" ones I noticed were Mouton-Rothschild and not Mouton-Cadet...lol. I just thought the Mouton-Cadet were made by Rothschild and that they were similar...guess that shows how much I know about wine.

Thanks again.

Mouton-Cadet IS made by Rothschild... However, as you have understood, the one wine is a great one from a single vineyard, the other is a brand and a blend of various Bordeaux lots maintaining a fairly constant style and quality. The Mouton-Cadet is much critiziced by wine snobs, with some justification, and is a bit overpriced due to the 'Mouton' prefix - but is also a typical simple Bordeaux. Not great, nor poison. Anders
