We accepted a dinner invitation, asked what we could bring. Hostesssaid "please bring a bottle of wine, we're having smoked turkey." Sheknows I like matching wines and food, but I realize I'm a bit at aloss here. My first instinct is something like a rather hefty dry tooffdry Riesling. I'm thinking that could work with turkey, andcertainly I've had great success with Alsace and drier German Rieslingwith choucroute and other dishes with smoked meats. To make thingseven more fun, the hostess mostly drinks white, but her hubby is astrictly red guy. I am of course happy to bring 2 bottles. So what doyou think? Happy with red or white choices (actually rose too, but I'mholding off on my remaining ESJs as I just had one)

Whoa, forget the umlaut discussion, you don't want to get this Southern boy started on using the word "BBQ'! :)

I like beer, but the hostess asked me for wine. The Riesling went well, the Rhone was opened later.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that you show up with beer. My comment was more of an aside for those of the group who might not have tried beer as an alternative for wine at a "civilized" dinner with smoked meats. (Also broiled steaks.)
