The Joy of "consumable" Christmas gifts

Sounds pretty good. Be sure to post notes on the mixed case.

Betsy gave me 2 sets (Bordeaux/Cabernet and Chardonnay/Sauvignon) of the Tritan (Schott Wiesel) hard-to-break stems.

My brother gave me a bottle of 2001 Armand Rousseau Clos de la Roche.

Various friends who came to dinner over the week brought a 1999 Westerly Merlot (santa Ynez), '99 La Gaffeliere, '01 Nozzole CCR, etc. Considering none are geeks I did pretty well!

Food-wise Betsy filled my stocking with d'Artagnan wild boar terrine, some cornichons, and some of her spiced nuts (I was complaining that friends were getting them all).

There were also some Christmas wineglass charms, cheese plates, a new coffeemaker, etc. And I craftily gave Betsy some gifts I get benefits from (new food processor, new Gourmet cookbook, etc).

Overall I'mn feeling good re my "haul".

Yep, one of the things I most look forward to on birthdays and Xmas' etc is firstly selecting wine for my parents who are quite rapidly moving away from boutique beer and spirits and drinking almost exclusively wine. If only I could get a few more relos etc into wine I could do all my shopping in the wine shop.

Mum has a passion for stickies and Dad one for big bold wines, particuarly shiraz, the heavier the better. So it makes my job quite exciting as I find these types of wines very interesting.

Secondly, I just love the feel, look of the bottles, let alone the wine itself, and one of the great gift getting pleasures is seeing what selection I have been given this time.

That's the joy of giving wine to someone who is not particuarly fussy [you can always find a suitable drinking time for a wine, even if it is relatively poor]; everyone knows they can just go to the wine shop and buy you a gift and you will like it.

I had a good Christmas too, and I hope everyone else did as well.

A bottle of Masi Costasera Amarone from my son and a bottle of Aberlour 10 yrs from my brother and a bottle of Braastad VSOP Cognac from my wife... Very pleasant Christmas gifts! Anders
