TN: 1999 DeSales

Friday night I was joined by a boisterous crowd of officers, NCO's and Civilians at Raleigh's Angus Barn and had my first quaff in several months.

The 1999 DeSales, selling for $14 a generous glass, had an opulent, perfumed nose, ripe berrish fruit, a good amount of tannin and a substantial finish. I scored it a solid 94/100 points. Off hand does anyone know what the WA and WS scored the wine. It went well with my rare filet mignon--A great night.

Parker gave it an 88 in April 2002.

Sounds better than I remembered. I like de Sales, but in other than great ripe vintages I think it resembles a mid-weight St. Emilion more than a Pomerol. The

2000 and 1998 have some of that lushness; I have one bottle of the 1990 that's supposed to be a pointe. If I see the '99 at a good price will try again, thanks for note. Dale
