[TN] 2012 Laible Weissburgunder

Consumed last night with a light dinner Caprese salad and bread:

2012 Alexander Laible Weissburgunder Trocken nose: subtle white flowers and melon palate: rich, briskly acidic, deeply fruity

This wine was purchased in Frankfurt and brought back here. Laible has the reputation of being the top white wine producer in Baden, and this wine certainly supports that view. Quite a bit deeper and richer than the other Weissburgunders (Pinot Blancs) that we had when in Germany, this wine was a little less aromatic perhaps than the others but otherwise sensational. Brought into the US by Fass Selections.

Your tasting notes are interesting, since white wines from Baden often are difficult to find in many parts of the US.

The Pinot Blanc goes by many names including Beli Pinot, Pinot Bianco, and Weissburgunder. It is often fairly dry in Germany.

Pinot Gris has even more names including Pinot Grigio, Grauburgunder, Rulan der, Sivi Pinot, and Szurkebarat. For modern Baden wines, Rulander usually is used for sweet wine and Grauburgunder is used for the dry ones. I still have have some Bickensohl Rulander Auslese 1976. It is quite full and nearl y as sweet as a BA.I doubt if you would have liked it with your meal. Perha ps it would be better after the meal with rather sweet fruit such as mangos . But it really needs no food served with it.
