Easter dinner - on Zoom with family from Dobbs, Ithaca, Minneapolis, and Sacramento
Our table had 4 kinds of deviled eggs, ham with mustard glaze, asparagus, roast potatoes.
2015 Ultramarine Heintz Vineyard Rose
This is a blend but seems pretty PN driven, quite full, black cherry and dark berry fruit, citrus zest, rising yeast bread. Good match with the ham. Not sure this qualifies as value (and certainly not at auction pricing), but good, in a non-Champagne kind of way. B+
1983 Ch. Canon (St. Emilion) (375 ml)
A wine I?ve really loved (including recently, from full and half bottles) but this seemed strangely muted. A bit of red fruit, hint of leather, but everything dampened. I wondered re TCA, but if so it's under my level of discernment. For me this bottle C+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
