TN: good Rieslings and Loire, good and bad (damaged?) Bdx

A bit of delay in SLC, but made it back to NY Thursday night. Dinner mostly from freezer - chicken sausage and dal, plus delicata squash.

1996 Ch. Troplong Mondot Some browning on rim, slight maderized note, tacky tannins, no fun. Well s tored but maybe heat before acquisition .Clean cork with not a lot of stain ing. This bottle C

2015 AJ Adam “"im Pfarrgarten” Feinherb Riesling Peach and mango with lime accents, good acids, Kabinett weight, long. B+/B

Friday dinner was swordfish and a kohlrabi salad, with the 2016 Pepiere ? ??Clos des Briords” Muscadet. Maybe not as snappy and elegant a s the ‘12 or ‘16, but a bit more verve than the ‘15 . But all Briords are Fantastic QPR- saline, vigorous, bright. B++

, Saturday was our anniversary, I picked up Betsy at JFK and went home for a nice dinner. I had planned on oysters to start, but fishmonger at farmers m arket didn’t have, so starters were smoked salmon and sherried chor izo instead, with a glass of NV Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Bla ncs. Apple and pears, yeasty dough, floral. Nice acidic lift, elegant mouss e B+

Rack of lamb over wilted arugula, couscous, grilled leeks, green beans (goo se fat)

2001 Ch. Sociando-Mallet Nice showing with some air. Cassis, black cherry, some green notes but more leafy than green peppery. Some spice, ferric notes. Still some tannin. Fre sh, good acids. B+/A-

Sunday we had a friend over, started with repeat of chorizo and salmon with leftover Champagne (still fine). Then gingered cod stirfry with kale and broccoli rabe, and a green salad with delicata and watermelon radish.

2013 Knoll Loibner Riesling Smaragd Citrus and tonic water, light for Smaragd (12.5 abv), tasty and quickly fin ished. B+

2017 La Tour Bon Bandol rose Pale, perky, pretty. B+

No wine Monday with Japanese hot pot (udon, maitake, spinach) or Tues (salm on, rice, greens)

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Something doesn't parse here. The '16 isn't as elegant as the '16? I figure either you opened the '17 or were comparing to the '14, but I'm not really sure.

Good to hear. Just got some of this from Posner.

I haven't been able to find these in Houston. Will keep looking. In Houston temporarily til next spring while my wife does chemo so, if anyone has knowledge of a store that might carry Pepiere, please advise. I can get it in Santa Fe but I'm not there.

As an aside, I only recently found out that stores can't ship wine into Texas.

Oh, terribly sorry to hear about your wife, Larry. Former AFW poster Peter Creasy lives in Houston. I'll ask him for recommendations in the area.

From Pete: "I checked several places and the Pepiere Muscadet appears to not be in town. For selected wines, I usually work with Charlie Skeens at Richard's 713-523-7405. Another good shop is Houston Wine Merchant on Shepherd. If Lawrence is just looking for a place with a large selection, then he might want to check Spec's on Smith and/or one of the Total Wines outlets (I sometimes visit the Total Wines on Holcombe). If Lawrence is in the market for high end, even exclusive, wines then I can give him another source."

Thanks, went into Houston Wine Merchant, Richards and Specs. Apparently, Pepiere is not this town. Is there a higher end place than Houston Wine Merchants. They seem to have all high end stuff but mostly current vintages.
