TN: I love Pepiere

Last night Betsy made mussels in a white wine sauce, preceded by a few Kumamotos (looking that them, I thought they would be hard to open, but found them much easier than Eastern oysters). Wine was the 2006 Domaine de la Pepiere (Marc Ollivier)"Clos des Briords " Muscadet VV. Yippee yi yo. This has a lot of potential, but is really drinking well now. Lemon and grapefruit, bracing acidity, a hint of bread yeast, lots of mineral/saline notes. Excellent length, lingers on. A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Thanks for the note. I really do need to grab one of Pepiere's Muscadets the next time I'm at a wine store.

My late MIL came from Kumamoto, but I was never served any oysters by her. It was always Sashimi, Sushi, Teriyaki or Sukiyaki, etc. However, the finest oysters that I ever had were on the Island of Miyajima, at one of the many little places close to the shrine of Utsukushima. There was no wine list, but the "biru" complimented the oysters perfectly.

I like muscadet with sushi.

There used to be a "famous" Godzilla Sushi restaurant in San Francisco. They were forced to change names when Disney, who had acquired the copyright, sued them for infringement.

Be careful, you may have to choose a different handle! ;)
